fancy

our last night in las vegas (it means ‘the meadows’) we went to the restaurant guy savoy. we didn’t get to go to it in paris, and here they had a less expensive, early-dinner pre-theater prix-fixe option. they were kinder than in france, more interested in answering our questions and of course in speaking english (though with a beautifully thick french accent). they didn’t seem inconvenienced that we only had an hour to eat (it took all of that hour and then some), and they even rushed our check to our table at the end to help us meet our theater reservation: this was very un-french. after all this time without alcohol, nearly since january, i had the most delicious sip of steve’s wine, a $25/glass bordeaux that we later tried to order at our fancy wine shop in ann arbor but could not. each time i go out to a fancy restaurant i feel twelve years old again, intimidated, awed, and trying very hard to keep my high-heeled shoes on.
